Fabien Roussel Calls on French President to Counter US "Oil Siege" and Aid Cuba
The National Secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF), Fabien Roussel, today requested President Emmanuel Macron to act without delay to prevent a US oil siege against Cuba and to facilitate aid to the blockaded island.

In a letter addressed to the French head of state, the leader also urged him to wield European Union mechanisms, particularly its Regulation 2271 of November 22, 1996, to counter the extraterritorial reach of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by Washington on the Caribbean nation for over six decades.

"I solemnly ask you, Mr. President of the Republic, to apply effective anti-coercion measures to guarantee the stability of the region, demanding the immediate and unconditional lifting of the blockade," he emphasized.

Condemnation of Trump's Executive Order
Roussel reminded Macron that on January 29, US President Donald Trump issued a decree seeking to "completely asphyxiate Cuba, in contempt of any law."

The order in question by Trump declared the small island an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to the national security of the world's greatest power, foreseeing the possibility of imposing tariffs on countries that supply or sell oil to it. Regarding this, the PCF National Secretary warned of the destructive consequences of the measure for the population, with a devastating impact on essential sectors ranging from health and education to transport, industry, and energy.

Concern Over US Naval Deployment and Regional Stability
Similarly, he expressed in the letter concern over the US naval deployment in Caribbean waters and the dangers posed by potential military actions for regional stability.

"The impact is on all of Latin America and potentially direct for the French territories of Guadeloupe, Martinique, and French Guiana," he stated.

Roussel also noted in the letter to Macron that hundreds of French citizens live in Cuba and that over 11,000 Cubans or dual nationals reside on French soil.

Call to Uphold France's Historical Stance
"France honors itself by voting each year for the UN General Assembly resolution demanding the end of the US blockade and has historical ties with Cuba, therefore it must react," he insisted.
