Thirty-Two Cubans in Venezuela, A Legacy of Courage

Cuban Internationalist Sacrifice in Venezuela Recalled
The recent history of Cuba is marked by feats of international solidarity that have demanded extraordinary courage from their participants. Similar to Angola—the transatlantic endeavor involving over 300,000 Cuban combatants between 1975 and 1991—the year 2026 began with the loss in Venezuela of 32 compatriots. They assumed, to the ultimate consequence, the duty of supporting an anti-imperialist project in Latin America during a time of direct and disproportionate aggression.
Continuity of an Internationalist Tradition
Their sacrifice is not an isolated event. Each one represents the continuity of an internationalist tradition that has characterized the Cuban Revolution since its inception. The decision to be present in Venezuela, alongside the Bolivarian Revolution initiated by Hugo Chávez, was an expression of an entire nation's commitment to just causes.
Bravery Against Imperial Escalation
The courage of these martyrs was expressed in their willingness to face increasingly imminent dangers following imperialist escalation, with U.S. President Donald Trump leading the Oval Office. Amid adverse circumstances, the combatants from the largest of the Antilles, through the sacrifice of their lives, upheld the dignity of Cubans.
This sacrifice demonstrates that history, even recent history, is a mobilizing and inspiring force. Their example points the way for resistance against imperialist aggression. Thirty-two Cubans gave their lives on Venezuelan soil, and their legacy is inscribed in the same line as those who, throughout time, have paved the path of justice and the sovereignty of peoples with their blood.
