Culture and Heritage Offer Another Recreational Option This Summer in Cuba

With visits to ethnographic museums, the Quinta de los Molinos green space, and a wide range of summer workshops, the Rutas y Andares (Routes and Wanderings) heritage project begins its program today in the Cuban capital.
These guided routes provide cultural tourism opportunities for Cuban families and a chance to engage with the rich cultural heritage preserved in Havana’s Historic Center, said Katia Cárdenas, Director of Cultural Management at the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana.
“It is also an opportunity to share these experiences with younger generations, to bring family and friends together, and to discover the many wonders of this part of Havana,” Cárdenas added. “Our proposals go beyond traditional routes because they offer a fun and engaging way to learn.”
Running through August 30, Rutas y Andares, now celebrating its 25th anniversary, will feature a diverse program shaped by audience preferences. Themed routes include Cecilia Valdés’s Havana, Havana’s Churches, Stained Glass Windows, Archaeology, and Colonial Fortresses, among others.
Today’s scheduled routes include Popular Art, departing from the Casa de Asia Museum at 10:00 a.m. local time, Colonial Ambiances, and Havana and Its Furniture II, hosted at the Museum of Colonial Art, also at 10:00 a.m.
Quinta de los Molinos will open at the same time for the route Mambises and Their History, while the Castillo de la Real Fuerza will host Means of Transportation in Havana II.
Also organized by the Office of the Historian, a series of youth workshops began this past Monday. Offerings include Getting to Know Mozart, Popular Cuban Dances, Comic Books, Social Cinema, Public Speaking Skills, Narrative Techniques, Modeling, Illustration, and Artistic Animation.
Launched in 2001 as an initiative to showcase the work of the Historian’s Office, Rutas y Andares has become one of the city’s leading summer recreational programs, according to the Cultural Program bulletin of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana.
The project has helped bring Cuban families closer to the historical and cultural heritage of the Old City.
To participate in Rutas y Andares, attendees must obtain a physical ticket at the City Museum or a digital pass through the La Papeleta app, which grants access to all scheduled activities.
The full itinerary is available on the Facebook page of the Cultural Program of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana.
