The solidarity extended by the government and people of China with the largest of the Antilles was acknowledged this Saturday during the reception ceremony for a donation sent by the Asian giant. This aid is destined to support those affected by Hurricane Melissa's passage through the island's eastern region.
This is the first of six flights arriving at Havana's José Martí International Airport carrying food products, including 16 tons of biscuits and 13 tons of instant noodles. These supplies will be transported to the affected zones for distribution to the population, as part of a new batch of emergency humanitarian assistance provided by the Chinese government.
Similarly, in the coming days, other shipments will arrive by sea in Santiago de Cuba. These will include galvanized steel coils for roof repairs, photovoltaic energy generation systems to support remote households and hard-to-reach areas, mattresses, and other essential items.
Huan Xi, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cuba, highlighted the delivery of family disaster prevention kits to the country prior to the impact of the extreme hydro-meteorological event. Furthermore, through the Agency for International Development Cooperation (SITCA), assistance was provided with five thousand solar photovoltaic systems.
The diplomat stated that this stance in the face of adversity is another clear demonstration of the friendship and deep fraternity between the two countries and their peoples.
"China will continue providing assistance within the scope of its capabilities, and with concrete actions, we will continue promoting a community with a shared future between Cuba and China," he concluded.
Cuban Gratitude and Commitment to Swift Distribution
Aracelys Cardoso, Vice Minister of Domestic Trade (Mincin), emphasized in her words of thanks on behalf of Cuba the noble nature of this gesture. Through it, the Asian nation reaffirms that it stands unconditionally with the people of the Caribbean archipelago, thereby strengthening the friendship between the two countries.
She further expressed the firm will of the Government to deliver this aid to its intended recipients as quickly as possible.
In a significant year for bilateral cooperation, China thus reiterates its sensitivity and commitment to supporting those most in need, she noted.
The handover ceremony was also attended by Déborah Rivas Saavedra, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country.
