With politics in the Trump administration having become a kind of horrors show, it was inevitable that some clowns would appear, with all due respect to such a noble profession.

In that vein, we present the “Honorable” former three-star general, Michael Thomas Flynn, with 30 years of service in the army. After completing his university studies, he later delved into the fascinating world of killing and getting paid well—that is, the armed forces of his country—receiving training in these skills at the Naval War College and the Army's School of Advanced Military Studies.

Flynn has now joined those who predict an imminent attack on Venezuela, as a prelude to what they consider the most significant invasion yet, against Cuba.

On social media, Flynn declared about Venezuela: "Nicolás Maduro's days are numbered," labeling the Venezuelan president "leader of the largest foreign terrorist organization in the hemisphere," and concluding his tirade by asserting that "Cuba will be next."

Let's just say that Flynn is no novice, nor does he resemble the zealous members of the U.S. Congress who come from or are financed by the Cuban-American mafia in Florida, lacking legitimate lineage and preparation in matters of greater utility than defrauding their voters and other ills that are irrelevant here.

Flynn has some experience in attacks and how to organize them; supposedly, he knows what he's talking about. He was an intelligence commander in Iraq and Afghanistan, and also the Director of Intelligence for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and later Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) 2012-2014, under President Barack Obama.

While at that level, the U.S. military high command forced him to retire in 2014 due to “internal disagreements at the Pentagon,” staging several clashes with superiors for being “uncooperative and impulsive,” ignoring the chain of command. As a high-ranking intelligence officer, he put forward unconventional theories about global threats, and Flynn even succumbed to his temper and leaked classified information, although he was never charged.

Considering these peculiarities, President Trump thought it best to hire him in his first administration, appointing him as National Security Advisor, a position he held for 25 days, in January and February of 2017.

Before Trump took office, Flynn had kept contacts with Russia, considered by the FBI to be one of the main adversaries. And of course, those friendships were not forgiven, especially since he lied to cover up those ties, both to the FBI and even to the then-Vice President, Mike Pence.

For this reason, he was convicted in 2017, although Trump, loyal to his friends, pardoned him in 2020.

With no possibility of remaining a federal government employee, Flynn has focused on doing what he enjoys most: spreading outlandish theories, contributing to the many ghosts that always haunt Washington, some as ridiculous as those associated with the QAnon group, such as the infamous "deep state" and other such nonsense, which forms part of the victimhood narrative used by the far right.

This group, QAnon, along with other extremists, influenced the creation of a narrative that blames imported demons, "illegal" immigrants, or, of course, communism in the abstract—including the Chinese and Russians—for the very serious problems and insurmountable contradictions generated by the ever-increasing concentration of wealth in the US.

Flynn is an enthusiastic propagandist of these concepts and defends any interventionist project, promoting speculation about networks of heartless communists and terrorists, even those of Martian origin. Many people certainly believe him; due to his track record, Flynn is seen as one of the gurus of Trumpism, an essential reference point on conspiracy theories.

Hence the relevance of his threats, which must be taken seriously, and he must be exposed for what he is: a charlatan who, at 67, is trying to find a place in the chorus of extremists who are calling for war at any cost. It doesn't matter that it's in Our America, declared a zone of peace by CELAC, that is, by the entire region except the US.

The former general is also a danger to his own country. Among other things, the former general has distinguished himself as a promoter of Christian nationalist movements, believes that only one religion should be tolerated in the US, and considers himself a key figure among those promoting campaigns against the American electoral system, to the point of publicly suggesting a military coup to overturn election results he disagrees with.

In short, Flynn is a hawk, through and through. He doesn't hold any official position; he's so extremist that not even Trump can have him in charge, but he undoubtedly wields considerable influence among conservatives and the MAGA base.

When did Flynn emerge from the shadows?

Well, the maverick former general appears on the scene just hours before the announcement of an increased US military deployment in the Caribbean, and the drums of war are beating with renewed force.

Now the Pentagon has decided to send the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), accompanied by at least five destroyers and other support units. This carrier strike group was seen a few days ago in a Croatian port in the Mediterranean, where it has been stationed for about six months.

Flynn also joins in the criticism against Venezuela and Cuba on social media, at a time when the White House must contend with growing resistance in Congress to its military actions in the Caribbean, not only from the Democratic Party but also from Republicans.

Added to this are the many domestic problems the government faces, including running out of funds, to the point that they received some $130 million in donations to pay the military, an action that many wonder if it isn't paradoxically a money laundering operation for drug money.

In short, Flynn also realizes that there isn't much support for invading a country even within that MAGA base, hence all of Trump's efforts to win the Nobel Peace Prize, even if it's just another staged event. Most likely, someone remembered the intrepid former general and his potential influence in these circles, and well, they asked him to speak as he knows how.

Flynn's last name is reminiscent of a character from the animated film Tangled (2010). The story was adapted into a TV series called Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure. In these materials, Flynn Rider, as the character is called, is a "charismatic and adventurous" thief, seemingly, unintentionally, a description of the former general, Flynn.

Surely Flynn Rider will be fondly remembered; the other one, the real-life Flynn, a scoundrel after all, should be forgotten and banished to oblivion, from which he should never have returned since his retirement in 2014. In any case, General Flynn, if you dare to come back in full force, patriotic Cubans will await you with honor, though there’s no guarantee of your return to the United States.
