The Embassy of Japan in Cuba and the Palacio del Conde Lombillo Museum today inaugurated the photographic exhibition "Noble Neighbors," by Ohashi Kazunori, during the Cultural Journey of Japan in Havana.

Feline Protagonists and Cultural Significance
The collection of 30 portraits features cats, animals of great importance to the Asian nation, symbolizing protection, fortune, mystery, and tradition. "The admiration we feel for them can be seen in the plastic arts, manga, anime, and in the temples and shrines dedicated to these magical beings," explained the embassy's Minister-Counselor, Namba Atsushi. "It fills us with great joy to unveil for you how Mr. Ohashi's lens captured the natural curiosity these animals display, as well as the mutual respect and love that have bound humans and cats for centuries," the official added.

An Artist's Inspiration
The exhibition is a collaboration between the diplomatic mission and the Institute of Japanese Photographic Industry and is the result of its author's encounter with a cat that changed his perception of what these creatures represent. "In ancient Egypt, cats were worshiped as gods; that sacredness is still alive in our hearts today; I was completely captivated by their way of being, and I captured the nobility, freedom, and moments of warmth they silently provide us," expressed Ohashi Kazunori in a letter.

A Continuing Collaboration
This is not the first collaboration between Japanese officials and the City Historian's Office. Aliana Martínez, director of the museums of the Cathedral Square, stated that the exhibition is "a delight for the eyes and refreshing for the current times."

The exhibition will remain open to the public for one month on the second floor of the Palacio del Conde Lombillo, located in the Cathedral Square of the city's historic center.
