Based on a poem by José Martí and entitled "Dwarf Prince," the theoretical space for the first Early Childhood Theater Festival will take place today at the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC, for its acronym in Spanish).

"This party is held for a dwarf prince, he has blond locks, soft locks (...)" are the first verses of this poem by the hero included in the 1882 book "Ismaelillo," which serves as an emblem for carrying forward this project, whose inauguration will take place in UNEAC's Villena Hall.

This Theater Festival will kick off with the meeting "Theatrical Dialogues for Early Childhood," in which specialists and creators will reflect on the specifics of this artistic expression, aimed this time at the youngest children.

Participating in this first event will be Lizzette Silverio, director of La Chinche Theater Studio; Ana Sánchez, actress of the Drippy Theater; Carmela Núñez, director of Teatro Viajero; Isabel Cristina, advisor of Teatro La Proa; psychologist Roxanne Castellanos; and actor and playwright Maikel Chávez.

The sessions of this first Early Childhood Theater Festival "Dwarf Prince," will continue on Wednesday, June 4, with the conference "The Early Ages: From the Island's Theatrical History to the Audiovisual Incursion at Cubavisión Animation Studios."

This exchange highlights the value of the performing arts in child development and the construction of imaginative universes and is organized by the International Association of Theater for Children and Youth Cuba, the Casa A Cultural Promotion Center, and the Municipal Directorate of Culture Plaza.

The theatrical event will run until June 6, with performances in day-care centres in the Havana municipality of Plaza de la Revolución.
