The U.S. Senate this Monday once again rejected both Democratic and Republican proposals to fund the government of Donald Trump and end the shutdown that has persisted since last week, according to the U.S. legislative website. The 2024 fiscal year ended on September 30, but Congress, where Republicans lack the necessary majority, has failed to reach an agreement on the budget for 2025, local press reported.

The Democratic proposal failed 45-50, and the Republican bill also failed to obtain the necessary majority, reaching a result of 52-42. For any initiative to be approved, it would need at least 60 votes.

President Trump reacted to the vote and said on Truth Social that the Democrats' decision to shut down the government comes "just in the middle of one of the most successful economies, including a record stock market" in U.S. history.

He further stated that "unfortunately" the government shutdown "has affected many programs, services, and other elements of society that Americans depend on, and it should not have happened."

"I would be happy to work with Democrats on their failed health care policies, or anything else, but they must first allow our government to reopen. In fact, they should open our government tonight!" added Trump.
