The Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema has reached its 46th edition, and among the surprises delighting audiences today is a selection of seven films contributed by Churubusco Azteca Studios.

In addition to these productions, which honor the 80th anniversary of the Mexican film studio, a new feature this year is the launch of the Open Island Latin American Film Market (Mecla), stated the film event's president, Tania Delgado, in an interview with Radio Rebelde.

It will be held from December 7 to 11 thanks to the joint effort between the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) and the festival, she added.

According to the Havana festival's Facebook page, the initiative promises to transform Havana into a strategic bridge between Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Eurasian region.

"With an inclusive and dynamic vision, Open Island promotes the circulation of content and talent, opens innovative East-West cooperation routes, and generates investment opportunities and strategic alliances."

Among the highlighted activities are pitching sessions, panels, negotiation tables, location portfolios, collaboration meetings, virtual reality stations, immersive installations, and narrative video games.

Considered "one of the most relevant events in Latin American and Caribbean cinema," the festival will run from December 4 to 14, with entries invited to compete in its usual categories.

"Then we have the Restored Classics section, a space we always include because we are very interested not only in contemporary cinema but also in history; without it, we could not have reached where we are today," assured Delgado.

The festival has always been characterized by featuring the latest and most important works in international cinema, she said, which is why "there are many surprises and many good films for the audience to see."
