Presidential candidate Rixi Moncada of the Libre Party insisted this Wednesday on denouncing an "electoral coup" in her country following the elections held this past Sunday.

"An electoral coup that is in progress," Moncada asserted in an interview with Telesur, after emphasizing the role played by U.S. President Donald Trump in her country's elections.

In this vein, she highlighted that Trump has issued "three direct messages" against her and the political project she represents, "but with an additional component," which is the pardon of former President Juan Orlando Hernández.

In the past week, the White House occupant not only gave his open support to the candidate of the National Party (PNH), Nasry Asfura, but also pardoned Hernández, who belonged to that same political space.

"Hernández was sentenced by U.S. justice to 45 years in prison for trafficking more than 400 tons of cocaine to the U.S.," Moncada recalled. "It is an electoral coup in progress," she reiterated.

According to preliminary data from the National Electoral Council (CNE), cited by local press, Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party of Honduras (PLH) has 1,021,822 votes (40.28%); while Asfura of the National Party of Honduras (PNH), who had been leading the count, is in second place with 1,005,339 votes (39.63%).

The ruling party candidate Rixi Moncada, of the left-wing governing party Liberty and Refoundation (Libre), remains in third place with 482,486 votes (19.02%).
