Her scientific research laid the foundation for the documentary series ADN Cuba, and her communication skills allowed her to engage on camera with each of the protagonists, weaving together the narrative thread of the audiovisual work under the direction of the talented Alejandro Gil.

Reflecting on the experience, the specialist in Clinical Genetics told the press:

“It was a very interesting experience, above all because of the opportunity to converse with figures of the caliber of the protagonists of this series, and because our main purpose has been to share with our people knowledge about DNA, what functions this so-called molecule of life has, and how it can surprisingly reveal facts about our own history, not only as individuals but also as a nation.”

This perspective explains the fluid, even “easy” dialogue around such complex topics:

“This last aspect is one of the most meaningful objectives, to strengthen the collective identity of our people, our cultural memory, to learn from our past, to use that knowledge as tools of awareness and transformation, and for that we had the extraordinary honor and opportunity to count on six intellectuals, athletes, and artists from our country, widely recognized, with whom sectors of our people identified in one way or another, who helped us in this endeavor.”

Dr. Beatriz Marcheco Teruel is the director of the National Center for Medical Genetics. She has received significant recognition, including the Cuban Academy of Sciences Award (2015–2016).

As part of the 9th Summer Film Festival, each of the six episodes of the documentary series has been released, where art and science come together to take a deeper look at what unites us and what sets us apart as Cubans.
