The governments of Venezuela and Türkiye held the sixth Political Consultations Mechanism in Caracas, where they reviewed joint cooperation in various strategic areas, it was reported today.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on its website that both parties agreed yesterday on the importance of maintaining Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, a principle adopted in Havana, Cuba, in 2014 by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

The meeting, held at the Casa Amarilla Antonio José de Sucre, was chaired by Venezuela’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Europe and North America, Andrea Corao, and Türkiye’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Latin America and the Caribbean, Yaprak Balkan.

During the talks, the officials discussed various issues on the bilateral, regional, and international agenda, and “examined the current state of bilateral relations,” the report noted.

They also addressed prospects for developing and strengthening cooperation in multiple areas.

Both sides underscored the importance of preserving the region as a Zone of Peace and highlighted the commitment adopted at the second CELAC Summit to resolve disputes peacefully through dialogue, while upholding territorial integrity and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of states.

They also called for an “immediate end to the genocide against the people of Palestine and the inalienable right to their territory, free of political and territorial interference.”

Venezuela and Türkiye reiterated their mutual support in addressing global challenges and reaffirmed “their commitment to strengthening political dialogue and revitalizing economic, trade, and financial relations,” the Foreign Ministry added.
