At the event, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Charles Ramson noted that what happened in 1976 was a terrorist act, and underlined the need to 'remember such occasions to promote the notion of peace'.
He described as horrendous the sabotage on the airliner, which also carried 24 members of the Cuban sports delegation who were returning from Venezuela, where they had won all gold medals at the Central American Fencing Championships.
Ramson pointed out that the victims did nothing wrong, and insisted on the importance of 'remembering such a horrendous crime against humanity'.
'We will never tolerate a situation in which people are terrorized du to their choices, ideology or stances,' the minister pointed out, adding that 'they were young people who died, without a reason, they did not participate in any battle or war, it was an evil act against humanity.'
