The cherished friendship between China and Cuba shows the most expedient and effective path toward peace and development through cooperation between a great power and a small nation. Together we can showcase the unlimited strength of the identification between two genuine revolutions and the profound value of reciprocal solidarity.

This was expressed by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, at the ceremony commemorating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Cuba and the People's Republic of China, and the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949.

The celebration was also presided over by Comrade Hua Xin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Cuba. It was attended by members of the Political Bureau, the Secretariat of the Central Committee, leaders of the Party, the National Assembly, the Government, the Young Communist League, mass organizations, the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), the Ministry of the Interior (Minint), and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).

A Foundation of Shared Ideals

In the central speech of the commemoration, the Cuban President emphasized that the special relations uniting Cuba and China "have deep historical roots, are based on similar purposes and ideals, and have been accompanied by the personal attention, guidance, and high priority granted by the top leaders of both countries, from the historical generation to the present, with inter-party ties as the cornerstone."

At the beginning of his remarks, and on behalf of the Cuban people, Party, and Government, Díaz-Canel conveyed "the warmest congratulations to several generations of Cubans and Chinese, whose precious legacy has surpassed the test of time and geographical distance."

A Model of Solidarity and Cooperation

"Just as Commander in Chief Fidel said, 'We practice our solidarity with deeds, not with fine words,'" highlighted Comrade Hua Xin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Island, in the opening speech of the commemorative event.

"In the last 65 years," he expressed, "Sino-Cuban ties have become a model of solidarity and cooperation between socialist countries and of sincere mutual assistance among developing nations."

The diplomat expressed his "sincere gratitude to the Cuban Party, Government, and people for this special and friendly gesture," of celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba, and the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
