HAVANA.– In another display of his remarkable talent, Cuban parathlete Robiel Yankiel Sol secured his third world gold medal in the T47 long jump, dominating the competition without pressure from his rivals.

The world record holder and two-time Paralympic champion achieved a mark of 7.57 meters this Sunday at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, delivering Cuba's first gold medal of the tournament.

"I am very happy with the third title. I arrived in very good form, and the goal was to achieve it with a good jump," he stated shortly after the event. His series included two other valid attempts of 5.28 and 3.35 meters, along with three fouls.

"Those fouls were actually very good attempts; I was pushing for a better mark. I take away the experience that I can achieve it in the future," assured the Havana native, who is just 22 years old and has his sights set on surpassing the 8.00-meter mark.

As is his custom in every competition, Robiel Yankiel's primary competition was himself. At the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, his closest challenger was Russian neutral athlete Nikita Kotukov, who took silver with 7.21 meters. The bronze medal went to China's Hao Wang with a jump of 7.19 meters.

Cuba also relied on Abraham Viltré, but he encountered difficulties finding the take-off board. His three fouled jumps placed him last in the event, which combines para-athletes from the T46 and T47 classifications.

"Thank you very much to everyone who has supported me and sent their good wishes through social media. Please continue to support all Cuban athletes; we are going to give our best in every performance," expressed the young champion, who also claimed world titles in Paris 2023 and Kobe 2024.

These were the first appearances for the Cuban delegation at the championships. Another strong result is anticipated this Monday from javelin thrower Guillermo Varona (F46), who is also defending the title he won in the Japanese city last year.

The remaining Cuban competitors will be javelin throwers Ulicer Aguilera (F13) and Ever René Castro (F41), long jumper Felipa Echevarría (T46), and sprinter Daniel Milanés (400 meters/T47).

After two days of competition, Brazil leads the medal table with three gold, five silver, and two bronze medals. They are followed by China (3-4-2) and Ukraine (2-2-1).
