Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel commemorated the nation’s National Culture Day today through the social media platform X.

“Our National Anthem, which moves us with its beauty and strength, was sung for the first time on October 20. That patriotic event marks the moment when we celebrate Cuban Culture Day,” he wrote.

He also referred to the belief that only culture can make men and women truly free, emphasizing that it must be preserved above all else — since, as expressed by Cuban national hero José Martí and Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, when culture stands firm, the homeland is saved.

“Congratulations to those who make it possible and defend it,” Díaz-Canel added.

Meanwhile, the island’s foreign minister highlighted the historical event that took place 157 years ago, noting that Cubans today celebrate it “with the strength that defines and unites us everywhere: our rich blend filled with music, joy, history, and traditions.”

Cuban culture remains a symbol of identity, history, resistance, pride, and the enduring voice of the nation to the world.
