The "La letra en sus voces" series, a cycle of conversations dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the publishing house of Havana's Casa de las Américas, will take place this Thursday in the institution's Manuel Galich Hall.

Founded in 1960, the publishing house was created out of the necessity to publish the works awarded the Casa de las Américas Literary Prize. Subsequently, its objectives expanded to promote the most relevant and representative literature from Latin America and the Caribbean.

Showcasing Contemporary Chicano Poetry

On the subject of literary works, the Program of Studies on Latinos in the United States and the Casa de las Américas Publishing Fund are promoting the anthology "A Storm is Coming. A Selection of Contemporary Chicano Poetry" through their digital platforms.

According to the cultural institution's Facebook page, it is "a brief but powerful representation of the work of some of its most important voices during recent decades."

The anthology "emerges in a time and an era where the echoes of racist persecutions, the harassment of migrant communities, and the stereotypes linking Latino communities to crime are resonating once again through the streets of the United States," as stated by the Colombian-American poet and cultural anthropologist Vanessa Torres, who compiled the text alongside poet Matt Sedillo.
