Cuba and China held a tourism promotion event today in Guangzhou, showcasing the Caribbean island’s natural and cultural attractions, as well as the facilities available for Chinese visitors.
During the activity, Marina Domenech, Cuba’s Consul General in Guangzhou, stated that recent measures—such as the visa exemption and the resumption of Air China’s direct flights—remove barriers for travelers coming from the Asian giant.
She also recalled that Cuba was designated in 2003 as the first “Chinese tourist destination” in Latin America, underscoring the strong foundation for cooperation in this sector.
For his part, Dayron Rodríguez, Director of International Business at Havanatur S.A., Cuba’s tour operator, presented customized itineraries that include routes themed around tobacco, coffee, and the country’s cultural and natural heritage.
Wang Guangyan, General Director of Cuba Baiyou Travel, highlighted the unique features of cities such as Havana, Viñales, Varadero, and Trinidad, and announced a combined Cuba–Venezuela route that blends Caribbean culture with South American biodiversity.
During the question-and-answer session, attendees—including tour operators, business representatives, and members of the press—exchanged views on medical insurance, personalized experiences, and improvements to Cuba’s tourism offerings.
The event focused on Cuba’s rich tourism resources and distinctive itineraries as the “Pearl of the Caribbean”, while also promoting exchanges and bilateral cooperation in this sector.
The gathering further highlighted the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and China.
Cuba has intensified its tourism promotion in Asia, with a particular emphasis on China, a strategic market that experienced steady visitor growth before the pandemic and is now regaining momentum thanks to the reactivation of air connections and visa facilitation.
The island recently received the “2025 Intangible Cultural Heritage Activation Partner Destination” award, granted by China’s Meadin Research Institute.
The recognition honors the Caribbean nation for its efforts in preserving and revitalizing intangible cultural heritage.
Elizabeth Vela, Cuba’s Tourism Counselor for Asia, affirmed that Cuba is one of the most unique and fascinating destinations in the Caribbean.
She added that the country offers more than beaches: it boasts the world’s finest tobacco, high-quality coffee, exquisite rum, and internationally recognized tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
