Florida to Experience Coldest Temperatures in 15 Years, With Miami Below Freezing

Historic Cold Snap Set to Hit the Sunshine State This Weekend
Florida will experience its coldest temperatures in 15 years, with readings dropping below 0 degrees Celsius (below 30 degrees Fahrenheit) in Miami this upcoming weekend. This follows the state's previous exception to the winter storm that has left over 30 dead after battering the rest of the United States in recent days.

Freeze Warning Issued for South Florida
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a freeze warning on Wednesday for Glades County in southwestern Florida, in addition to forecasting freezing temperatures for areas of Miami (-2°C or 28°F), Fort Lauderdale (-2.7°C), and West Palm Beach (-6°C or 21°F).

"While cooler temperatures have already arrived across much of the area, even colder temperatures are expected this weekend and early next week. Widespread areas of near-freezing or sub-freezing temperatures are possible across South Florida on Sunday and Monday," warned the NWS office in Miami.

State Finally Joins Widespread Winter Conditions
The Sunshine State had been the exception to the winter storm that hit two-thirds of the United States last weekend, where the death toll rose to 34 by Tuesday, while 530,000 homes remain without power amidst record-breaking cold in dozens of cities.

However, the weather agency now indicates the cold front will reach Florida, which could also see rain from Wednesday through Friday.

"Florida has decided to participate in winter, at least heading into next week. There will be an extended period of cold mornings and cold days in the coming days. Another cold front moves through late Friday into Saturday, which will extend the cold weather into next week as well," observed the NWS office in Tampa.
