The Code of Childhood, Adolescence, and Youth was published today in the Official Gazette and takes effect this same day, January 28th, coinciding with the 173rd anniversary of the birth of Cuba's National Hero, José Martí—a tribute to his legacy, which in many cases was dedicated to childhood.

Press Conference Details Code's Development
At a press conference, Naima Trujillo Barreto, Cuba's Minister of Education, explained some details of the norm's development, for which they relied on a broad group of advisors and consultations with those whom it is intended to serve.

The Minister emphasized that this legal instrument envisions a comprehensive protection system with its respective subsystems for children. For youth, it establishes a system of care and promotion of participation that positions them as the main actors in their own development.

Implementation and Engagement
Now, she said, the task is to implement the legal instrument, and the most important thing is that those for whom it is dedicated feel involved in the process.

Commissions will be created at all levels, and with this, actions already designed in the Constitution of the Republic and in the Families Code will be complemented, now being integrated more specifically for these age groups.
