Havana, Sep 26 (Prensa Latina) The president of the National Electoral Council (CEN) of Cuba, Alina Balseiro, reported today that the Family Code was ratified with 3,936,700 votes in favor in the Sunday referendum, representing 66.87 percent of the valid votes.

The official said that 6,251,786 turned out to vote, which represents 74.01 percent of the electorate of 8,447,467 people. The number of valid ballots rose to 5,891,705.

Balseiro said that the latter figure is eqivalent to 94.25 percent of the total number of legitimate votes. The results were ratified by the highest electoral authority and are irreversible, she pointed out.

The CNE president congratulated the participants in this process of popular consultation held on Sunday, highlighted their discipline and public-spiritedness and acknowledged the support personnel, authorities and pioneers present in the more than 23 thousand authorized polling stations, in spite of the weather conditions.

According to Balseiro, information is still pending from 36 constituencies: 24 in Holguin, 11 in Havana and one in Santiago de Cuba and reiterated the approval of the law, described by experts as innovative, inclusive, revolutionary, democratic, plural and with rights for all families.

Previously, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel celebrated the first results in favor of the Family Code.
