Moscow, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) Gazprom has resumed gas deliveries to Italian buyers through Austria, the Russian gas company announced.
The Austrian operator notified its readiness to accept the solution for the regulatory changes in the gas supply connecting Gazprom with Italy, TASS news agency reported.
For its part, Italy’s energy company Eni confirmed the continuation of gas supplies, and acknowledged that the European country needs 20 million cubic meters per day of the fuel.
“It is difficult to look at this winter with confidence. We did our best to be in a good position, but the additional contribution of Russian gas of 20 million cubic meters per day is fundamental,” Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi told Italian daily Corriere della Sera.
The resumption of supply via Austria resumed on Wednesday after the suspension of the shipment last Saturday following the Austrian operator’s refusal to comply with the requirements of the contract it signed with Gazprom Export.
Normally, Italy receives Russian natural gas through a transit line that crosses the territories of Ukraine, then passes through Hungary and Austria. Other European countries that receive Russian gas through Ukrainian territory are Slovakia, Moldova, Romania and the Czech Republic.
