The Cuban boxing team Los Domadores will compete today against a French national team in an Olympic-style duel, scheduled for three rounds of three minutes each, at the Alexis Vastine Sports Complex in the French commune of Pont-Audemer, department of Eure, Normandy region.

The Cubans are led by two-time Olympic champion and five-time world champion Julio César La Cruz (La Sombra), who will fight in the + 90 kg category against a yet-to-be-determined opponent. This event is in memory of French boxer Alexis Vastine, bronze medalist in Beijing 2008 and silver medalist in the 2010 Moscow European Championships, who died in 2015 at the age of 28 in a helicopter crash in Argentina.

The roster announced by Cuban authorities for this evening's event, which starts at 7:30 p.m. French time, includes six national champions from the recent 2025 Playa Girón Tournament, as well as two silver medalists and one bronze medalist.

Among the Cuban titleholders, in addition to "La Sombra," are Alejandro Claro (50 kg) from Sancti Spiritus, world champion at Tashkent 2023; Rolando Martínez (55 kg) from Guantanamo; Luis Enrique Vinent (60 kg) from Santiago de Cuba; Keilor García (80 kg) from Cienfuegos; and Nelson Williams (90 kg) from Camagüey.

The Cuban fighters also include Yusnier Sorsano (70 kg) from Camagüey; Yoelvis Leyán Tejera (65 kg) from Matanzas; Raikol Leonard (75 kg) from Santiago de Cuba; and Carlos Aguilera (85 kg) from Holguín.

Likewise, Holguín native Jorge Soto (80 kg), runner-up on the island, will close the evening in a six-round professional fight against Benjamín Mendes, who has a record of eight wins and one loss in that round.
