De Niro, who has business in the fields of film, real estate and gastronomics, was the star of the event held late on Monday at Moscow’s Crocus City Hall, where he co-owns the new restaurant.

The U.S. actor appeared before the media accompanied by the world’s most famous Japanese chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, according to media outlets.

When Russian reporters asked him whether he will apply for Russian citizenship, as was the case with boxer Roy Jones, De Niro said he may do so although it is somewhat complicated, but no one knows what the future brings.

This is the second restaurant from the Nobu chain, which specializes in sushi, in the Russian capital, the first was inaugurated in 2009.

The 72-year-old actor visited Russia for the first time in 1987, when he chaired the jury of the Moscow International Film Festival.
