The show “Laughter Up Front” returns to the Karl Marx Theater on October 4, 5, 11, and 12, bringing Osvaldo Doimeadiós, Miguel Moreno “La Llave” and Carlos Gonzalvo “Mentepollo” back to the stage alongside others who challenge audiences to laugh through performances that extend beyond the traditional monologue.

A continuation of the popular program of the same name from Nave Oficio de Isla, the performances—directed by Ignacio “Nachi” Hernández—unite different generations of comedians. The production blends tradition and contemporary themes to provoke laughter, with the addition this season of actress Yamira Díaz and Jorge Bacallao.

In comments to the Cuban News Agency, Doimeadiós explained that beyond the stand-up comedy format, “the cast interacts in two very special moments.”

He added that in “Laughter Up Front”—the show itself— “the audience can expect monologues that address Cuban customs, social satire, and absurdity, always rooted in reality and in the ways we observe and interact with it.”

Five Comedians, One Storyline

From the opening, five comedians share the stage, gradually moving from individual stories to a collective resolution. As actor and comedian Moreno explained, the performance seeks “an initial pretext that allows each artist to transition into their own everyday stories and then return together to resolve the central conflict.”

Moreno, a member of the group Komotú, emphasized that the September shows were well received, “which not only reflects a strong balance of performers but also highlights the public’s need to laugh at the variety of styles in a show that guarantees both entertainment and reflection.”

Expanding Reach Through Theater and Digital Platforms

For his part, Gonzalvo—who, despite his television character “Floro,” remains widely known by the nickname “Mentepollo”—noted the positive reception of “Laughter Up Front” at Nave Oficio de Isla. “The views on YouTube speak for themselves, despite the changing patterns of internet consumption in recent months,” he said.

Reaching the Karl Marx Theater and social media platforms, Gonzalvo added, opens up new possibilities: “The monologue can shine more freely outside the frameworks and content restrictions of mass media like television.”

He also stressed that presenting shows like this is valuable, as it “updates audiences on new ways of making comedy, where stand-up has become dominant while traditional comedy troupes are increasingly rare worldwide.”

Performance Schedule and Ticket Information

“Laughter Up Front” maintains its usual schedule: Saturdays at 9:00 p.m. and Sundays at 5:00 p.m. Tickets have been available since Tuesday, September 30, at the theater’s box office and through the Ticket online platform.
