The British rock icon visited the Hotel Santa Isabel in the Old Havana part of town and also toured historic sites, all of which the Communist Party daily Granma wrote up as a front-page story headlined “Mick Jagger is in Cuba.”

The reasons for Jagger’s visit could include negotiations for a concert the Rolling Stones want to give in Cuba on their next Latin American tour, the newspaper said.

About the possible concert, Granma recalled a statement by Stones guitarist Keith Richards, who once hinted that the band might perform next March at Havana’s Estadio Latinoamericano.

Jagger, 72, also visited the Club Shangri-La where his presence was snapped in a photo published in Granma and on the government Web site Cubadebate, showing him surrounded by some of the night spot’s employees.

When Stones bass player Darryl Jones was on the island last February playing with the band The Dead Daisies, he said he would convince Jagger to have the Rolling Stones come rock in Cuba.
