'It was very important for me to win the 2017 Diamond League. We had today some problems with the wind and my technique was not great. I want to jump over five meters in future, of course. I tried to reach 4.92 m, which would be a new Cuban record, ' the Cuban athlete said.

Silva, also Olympic runner-up in London 2012, won her third Diamond League medal, after winning bronze (4.65) in Doha, Qatar, last May; and silver (4.75) in Rome, Italy.

The Russian pole-vaulter Anzhelika Sidorova won the silver medal with 4.75 meters, while the German Lisa Ryzih won bronze with 4,65; followed by Swedish Angelica Bengtsson (4.55), Canadian Alysha Newman (4.55), US Mary Saxer (4.40), while the New Zealand-born Eliza McCartney and Swiss Nicole Buchler were eliminated without being able to make valid jumps.

Yarisley Silva is now heading the overall classification with 21 points, followed by the Greek Katerina Stefanidi (16) and German Lisa Ryzih (15).
