WHO reports a drop in Covid-19 cases and deaths

Geneva, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina) Covid-19 cases in the world fell by 11 percent and deaths by 20 from February 15 to 21, the World Health Organization (WHO) informed on Wednesday.
 
According to the health entity, the number of active cases fell for the sixth consecutive week, with 2.4 million new Covid-19 patients and nearly 66,000 deaths.

'The downturn in the incidence during the past week was especially notable in the Americas, where it dropped by 19 percent, with nearly 1.06 million afflicted and over 34,000 deaths from Covid-19,' the WHO report notes.

However, according to the document, five countries still have the highest number of new infections: the United States (480,467), Brazil (316,221) and France with 131,179.

In addition to Russia with 92,843, representing a reduction of 11 percent, and India with 86,711, for a growth by 10 percent.

The Southeast Asia and Eastern Mediterranean regions showed a peak in the number of infections by 2 percent and 7 percent, respectively, according to the WHO.
