The President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz appeared on Cuban television’s Mesa Redonda program, yesterday evening, June 11, to explain details of the next stage the country is approaching in defeating the COVID-19 epidemic, along with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Alejandro Gil.
The plan presented, previously approved by the Party Political Bureau, includes measures for three stages of the first phase of the post-COVID recovery, addressing the areas of health, tourism, labor, taxes, foreign trade, domestic commerce, transportation, education, sports, and culture, as well as summer activities.
President Díaz-Canel emphasized that during the current stage, the country has worked hard to save lives, with the entire people’s participation, which has made possible results in the COVID battle indicating that a new stage is at hand.
Prime Minister Manuel Marrero reported that three key objectives have been defined for the recovery period: return the country to normality gradually and in a differentiated manner; avoid a resurgence of new cases; and develop capacity to reduce vulnerabilities, while noting that physical distancing and the use of facemasks will remain obligatory during the first phase of this new period.
