The VII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), was inaugurated today in Buenos Aries with a greeting to the reincorporation of Brazil to the mechanism of integration and political agreement.

The host President Alberto Fernández greeted the presence of the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in the convention hall, and then summarized the actions carried out by his country in its capacity as President Pro Tempore of CELAC during 2022.

He called for working together in a globalized world, because in this way better and greater results would be obtained for the benefit of our peoples.

He emphasized that during his actions at the head of the mechanism, Argentina has demanded the lifting of the blockades affecting Cuba and Venezuela.

We believe in democracy, which is definitely at risk, by the reclaiming and fascist right wing that tries to undermine the institutionality of our peoples, as happened in Bolivia and a few days ago in Brazil, he said.

Fernandez condemned the actions of the right wing in attempting to assassinate Argentine Vice President Cristina Fernandez, actions such as these -he pointed out- Latin America and the Caribbean cannot allow.

We must continue to strive to overcome the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, of the economic and logistical crisis we are experiencing, and for this we must deepen our dialogue, in the diversity that characterizes us and that we must respect, and in which we must grow together.

CELAC offers us the opportunity to make integration a reality, he stressed, and commented that he was reassured that during Argentina's Pro Tempore Presidency he had placed the voice of Latin America and the Caribbean in its rightful place.

United we can have an overwhelming force that defends the interests of our peoples, said Fernández.
