Caracas, March 26 (RHC)-- The National Assembly (AN) of Venezuela condemned on Thursday the recent aggression in Venezuelan territory perpetrated by armed groups coming from Colombia against residents of La Victoria, Apure State.

During a televised appearance, the President of the National Assembly Jorge Rodríguez pointed out that these actions were a threat against the sovereignty of the Republic and the peace of the people.

The parliamentary leader pointed out that the actions of these criminal groups on the Colombian-Venezuelan border is the result of the extensive armed conflict in Colombia, which the State of that country has not known or has not wanted to resolve peacefully, he said.

Rodriguez emphasized that, in addition to causing collateral damage to neighboring nations, the phenomenon of these armed groups, dedicated to illegal activities and linked to drug trafficking mafias, are part of a conflict that is alien to Venezuela and that the current Government of Colombia consents to and irresponsibly exports.

The head of the National Assembly recalled that, at the express request of Colombian institutions, Venezuela participated as mediator in the Colombian Peace Agreements during the governments of Commander Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro.

He asserted that, under the government of Iván Duque, Colombia has abandoned the path of peace and turned over its border areas to mafia groups that have converted them into a criminal corridor and theater of operations for sustained aggressions against Venezuela.
