Canberra, Oct 17 (RHC) A resolution condemning the economic, commercial, and financial blockade maintained by the U.S. government against the island was approved here by the Australia Cuba Friendship Society (ACFS).

The document also urges the Australian government to maintain its favorable vote for the Cuban resolution against the genocidal siege, presented every year before the United Nations General Assembly, which will be held on November 2 and 3 this year.

The declaration, adopted in the presence of the Cuban ambassador, Ariel Lorenzo Rodríguez, received full support from the delegates to the 37th National Consultation of the Australia Cuba Friendship Society, held last weekend in this city in person, after two years without being held in this way due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the meeting, the main activities developed in recent months as part of the solidarity work in support of the Cuban people were discussed, as well as the work projections for the coming months.

In this regard, they highlighted the initiative "From Australia to Cuba with love", developed from January 1 to April 15, and the preparation of the Southern Cross Brigade, which will visit Cuba from December 29 to January 17, 2023, both in coordination with the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).

The occasion was also valid for members of the Australia-Cuba Friendship Society to demand the immediate cessation of the blockade and condemn the limitations and obstacles established by the Australian banks as a direct consequence of the extraterritorial nature of the U.S. policy towards Cuba.

For his part, the Cuban diplomat gave an update on the political, economic, and social situation on the island and also referred to the work carried out by the Cuban embassy in Australia.

Lorenzo Rodriguez also thanked the expressions of solidarity and all the support that the Australia-Cuba Friendship Society gives to his country. (Source: PL)
