Uruguay’s Caras y Careta expresses solidarity with Prensa Latina

The Uruguayan magazine Caras y Caretas on Monday expressed its solidarity with the Latin American news agency Prensa Latina, whose YouTube channel was hacked and its contents disappeared when it was in the process of expansion.

Since its creation in 2012, the channel that disappeared on Sunday had accumulated 64,500 subscribers, with a dynamic growth in 2023.

We are deeply in solidarity with Prensa Latina, the director of the Uruguayan printed, digital and multimedia publication, Alberto Grille, said.

He pointed out that both media have suffered similar attacks that show the vulnerability of alternative and anti-hegemonic media.

In our case, our programs Legítima Defensa and Macondo, which are broadcasted on our YouTube channel, were hacked in early January, he explained.

Grille pointed out the coincidences in both cyber attacks. Our channel was hacked with a procedure quite similar to the one described by Prensa Latina, by obtaining and introducing our passwords to modify the contents, so that YouTube, by its own codes, blocked the channel.
