United Nations, Oct 4 (Prensa Latina) The UN representation in Cuba, led by resident coordinator Consuelo Vidal-Bruce, supports national authorities in addressing the needs of the Cuban people most affected by Hurricane Ian´s wake, UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said.

At a press conference, Dujarric reported that the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) donated over eight tons of medical supplies and medicines to be distributed in the most ravaged areas.

Dujarric also recalled the delivery of a kit with supplies for the country´s health sector, which includes backpacks for health professionals who serve the affected communities.

Similarly, thanks to the Mexican embassy´s support, 20 chainsaws were recently sent to Cuba so as to help clean up the roads and contribute to restoring power service, Dujarric stated.

Cuba is presently coordinating pressing actions with international organizations to face the ravages left by Ian´s wake, especially in the western province of Pinar del Río, while progressing in recovery efforts.
