Cuban Communist Party organization secretary Roberto Morales checked ongoing preparations in central Ciego de Avila province to host celebrations for National Rebellion Day, on July 26.
The date recalls the assault by a group of revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro on army barracks of the former Cuban dictatorship 72 years ago.
Given the tense economic situation affecting the country, Morales pointed at the need to rationalize resources to contribute to the welfare and quality of life of the people.
Communist Party leader in Ciego de Avila province, Julio Gomez, said that work is underway to meet home construction plans and social projects.
Local governor Alfred Menendez referred to ongoing works in the recovery of tourist facilities, the reanimation of public transportation and other tasks.
The annual central ceremony of July 26 celebrations in Cuba is assigned every year to the territory with the best annual economic and social indicators. This time Ciego de Avila in the central part of the island was picked for the national event.
