Tokyo, Jul 12 (Prensa Latina) Tokyo, the capital of Japan, on Monday entered its fourth state of emergency and will extend it until August 22 to prevent the spread of Covid-19 while hosting the Olympics and Paralympics.

The measure includes a ban on the sale of alcoholic drinks, the limit to half the capacity of visitors in areas linked to the sporting event and the closure of public establishments at 21:00 hours, local time.

The Government simultaneously applies the measure in the neighboring Okinawa prefecture and also ordered a strict sanitary mechanism for those in Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa and Osaka, due to their proximity to Tokyo.

It promised to provide financial aid to the owners of those businesses affected by all these provisions, in compensation for the foreseeable economic losses.

Also this Monday, hundreds of police officers checked Tokyo's traffic as part of the security device that will be established on the way to the games, which are due to begin on July 23.

Nearly 11,000 athletes, members of delegations and journalists are expected to arrive in Tokyo for the Olympic Games, which will conclude on August 8, apart from 4,400 participants in the Paralympic Games, which will open on August 24.

The organizers of the Games determined to ban spectators. The news was received with disappointment by several international sports federations, although they understand the efforts to prevent a Covid-19 outbreak among visitors.
