Belgrade, Feb 19 (Prensa Latina) Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Friday ratified his country's commitment to holding the World Boxing Championship, scheduled for the last quarter of the year in this capital.

According to the website of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA), the president and head of world boxing, Umar Kremlev, spoke on Friday during a meeting with the heads of the federations of the Balkan countries.

In the meeting with the AIBA executive, Vucic accepted the proposal to head the Organizing Committee of the 2021 World Championships in Belgrade, and acknowledged the popularity of boxing in his country and in the entire peninsula.

For his part, Kremlev expressed confidence in Serbia's organization and noted that the World Championships will give a boost to the new victories of local athletes.

The AIBA chief said at the meeting with Vucic that it is necessary to build a Boxing Center in Serbia to leave a legacy after the great tournament in favor of the development of young boxers.

After 43 years, the AIBA World Boxing Championship returns to the city of Belgrade, following the withdrawal of the venue to New Delhi for non-compliance with its obligations.
