Russia is willing to help Cuba strengthen its economy, which also suffers from foreign sanctions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We attach a lot of significance to supporting the activity of the Russian-Cuban intergovernmental commission for trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation at the current stage. It is exploring priority joint projects based on a full-format legal framework formed over the recent period to promote practical interaction aimed at stepping up support for and stimulate sustainable development of the Cuban economy," Lavrov said at a press conference following negotiations with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Wednesday.

"We will continue providing humanitarian aid to our Cuban friends, including in the wake of natural cataclysms, implications of the coronavirus infection, and definitely, the drastic negative effects of the unlawful embargo imposed on Cuba by the U.S. contrary to a position of virtually all other members of the global community," Lavrov said.

"We will continue to work together for building a fair polycentric global order, which should be based on generally accepted principles of international law," he said.
