Rixi Moncada, candidate of the ruling LIBRE party, stated this Sunday that her movement does not recognize the elections in Honduras held "under the interference and coercion" of U.S. President Donald Trump and the "allied oligarchy."
During a speech, the politician denounced to the international community the interference of the American leader in the election results, labeling it "a crime of treason against the homeland."
"LIBRE, in defense of democracy for the Honduran people, for our combative membership, and for the national and international community, declares: number one, Libre does not recognize the elections held under the interference and coercion of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the allied oligarchy that has assaulted the Honduran people with an ongoing electoral coup, after sending millions of messages across different platforms threatening the people that if they vote for Rixi they will not receive remittances in December," stated the politician, requesting the annulment of the elections and a repeat of the presidential vote.
Furthermore, she denounced that on December 6th, it was demonstrated in a full session of the National Electoral Council that the system for transmitting preliminary election results (TREP) "has been manipulated in its source code." She announced the call for an extraordinary assembly next Saturday, as well as protests across the national territory and departmental assemblies with the membership of the party in government.
Likewise, she condemned the pardon of former Honduran president José Orlando Hernández by the U.S. President and demanded that charges be filed and an international arrest warrant be issued "for his crimes against the territory (Zones of Employment and Economic Development) and for violating the Constitution with illegal reelection."
Meanwhile, the party also rejected "the imperial narrative of communism" used as an "attack" against Rixi Moncada and asserted that they disavow "any public official who places themselves at the order of, and announces cooperation in, a governmental transition with the enemies of the people, authors of this ongoing electoral coup."
One week after the presidential elections in Honduras, the country still appears far from a definitive final result, with public impatience and distrust growing amid allegations of irregularities and fraud in the recount process. The National Electoral Council has now gone 48 hours without updating the results of the presidential election. The latest results released Friday afternoon, with 88% of tally sheets reviewed, place Nasry Asfura, candidate of the National Party and U.S. favorite, in first place with 40.19% of the votes, followed very closely by Salvador Nasralla with 39.49%. Rixi Moncada, candidate of the ruling LIBRE party, is in third place with 19.3%.
