Carlos Alberto Cremata, general director of the Cuban children's theater company La Colmenita, is on Monday visiting the Dominican Republic, where the creation of a similar project, with a deeply human essence, is planned.

This morning, Cremata visited the República de Cuba school, in the Villa Consuelo sector, in this capital, an occasion in which he met with its principal, Eloisa Heredia, about the possibility of working on the creation of a similar group with students from the institution.

Heredia explained to the pedagogue the characteristics of the school, which has an enrollment of 312 students at the initial, primary and secondary levels, and around twenty teachers.

After commenting that the facility is located in a vulnerable district, she pointed out that the extended working hours facilitate the delivery of workshops in the afternoon, including drawing and music.

Cremata explained to the director and music teacher Arianna Rojas the purposes of this project, aimed at forging values in children through art, which had its first premiere in 1994 with the play “Meñique” (an adaptation by Cuban National Hero José Martí) at Havana’s Karl Marx Theater.

Accompanied by Cuban ambassador to the Dominican Republic Angel Arzuaga; the director of International Relations of La Colmenita, Lizette Martínez, and teacher Marta Palacios, “Tim” Cremata met with the children of the República de Cuba school, who transmitted the idea of creating a similar group.

“We dream of bringing “La Cucarachita Mandinga” and making a great musical comedy with you,” Cremata told the students. “We want to learn from the values and culture of Dominican children,” Cremata said.
