Havana, May 25 (Prensa Latina) Doctor in Historical Sciences Rodolfo Sarracino Magriñat, head researcher of the team of the Critical Edition of Jose Marti's Complete Works, died in Havana on Thursday at the age of 88.

His colleagues at the Center on Marti Studies, in Havana, ratified their deep respect for his meritorious work, acknowledged in 2014 with the highest institutional distinction “To think is to serve,” the cultural center wrote on Facebook.

It recalled that in the context of the latest Havana International Book Fair last February, Sarracino was awarded the National History Prize, granted by the Union of Historians of Cuba (Unhic).

The event was perceived in the guild as an act of justice to his passion for historiography and, in particular, to his dedication to the study of the life and work of Cuba’s National Hero.

As a diplomat, he did a commendable work that earned him the 40th Anniversary Medals of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, as a combatant, he earned the Playa Giron distinction.

His cultural work was acknowledged in Cuba with the 26th of July Historical Research Award granted by the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR); the Cuban Book Institute’s Criticism Award; the Marti Criticism Award and the Distinction for National Culture, in addition to receiving other international decorations.
