Army General Raúl Castro Ruz participated tonight in a videoconference led by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, with the National Defense Council and the provinces that will face the impacts of Hurricane Melissa. This was confirmed by the institutional profiles of the Presidency on the social network Facebook.

Through Brigadier General José Amado Ricardo Guerra, a member of the Political Bureau of the Party and Secretary of the Council of Ministers, Raúl Castro conveyed that he had been kept apprised of the evolution of the phenomenon and the measures adopted, and would continue to monitor the situation.

In the message, he expressed satisfaction with the responsibility demonstrated in the preparations and the level of readiness achieved, while recalling the necessity of maintaining maximum discipline during the passage of the event and in the subsequent phases.

Ricardo Guerra also communicated Raúl's greetings and his conviction that, faced with this new challenge, the people will emerge victorious.

Díaz-Canel confirmed in the meeting that they had reviewed the measures in place for the passage of Melissa with the provinces, where the number of evacuees now exceeds 735,000, and work is still ongoing.

"It will be a very difficult night for all of Cuba, but we will recover, always with the faith in victory that Fidel and Raúl instilled in us," expressed the President.
