Putin and Trump discuss security strategy and gun control

Russia's President Vladimir Putin on Thursday discussed with his US counterpart Donald Trump on the phone issues as security strategy, arms control and a possible summit of Russia, China, the United States, France and the United Kingdom.
 
During the phone conversation on these key issues, both presidents took into account the special responsibility of Russia and the United States to maintain international peace and security, the Kremlin said.

The exchange confirmed the importance of bilateral consultations on those matters, including the issue of the Treaty for the Reduction and Limitation of Offensive Strategic Weapons.

Putin and Trump also referred to the great relevance of the Russian initiative to hold a summit of countries that are permanent members of the UN Security Council on a wide range of international security problems, Russia's presidency highlighted.

The telephone conversation also addressed the situation regarding Iran's nuclear program. Both sides stressed the need for collective efforts to maintain regional stability and the global nuclear non-proliferation regime, the Kremlin underscored in a press release.

According to the official document, a mutual willingness to develop Russian-American economic-trade cooperation was expressed and a positive assessment was given to the collaboration in the fight against the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 novel coronavirus, causing the Covid-19 pandemic.
