Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel urged on Saturday at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change - COP28 to right the wrong.

On his speech at the round table on Means of Implementation, as part of the Global Stocktake session, Diaz-Canel stressed the need to urgently align commitments to defuse the current climate crisis.

COP28 is taking place in a context of multidimensional crisis, where the expectations created in 2015 by the Paris Agreement have not been met due to the attitude of developed countries that intend to shift the burden of their non-compliance to developing countries, the president deemed.

The head of State added that developed nations intend to erase their historical responsibility in the deterioration of the environment. In turn, they are reluctant to commit to the implementation of the necessary means to support climate actions in southern nations.

Diaz-Canel provided as an example that these advanced nations have been unable to meet the meager commitment of USD$1.0 billion per year to support climate change mitigation and adaptation in developing countries whose needs are increasing daily.
