Performing Arts Bring Solace to Residents of El Cobre

A brigade named "Cultura Adentro" arrived today in El Cobre, Santiago de Cuba, one of the towns most affected by Hurricane Melissa, with the purpose of supporting the community and lifting spirits just days after the meteorological phenomenon passed.
Actors, oral storytellers, musicians, and technicians from the Provincial Council of Performing Arts provided relief and companionship through art in a location where residents are still clearing branches and repairing roofs.
The actress María Fernanda, a member of the brigade, told the Cuban News Agency that the experience has been profoundly human, noting that art cannot remain in theater halls when people need it in the streets. "We are not just bringing a performance; we come to listen, to share, to heal together, to bring a bit of hope," she stated.
The presentations included dramatizations, tongue twisters, stories, riddles, games, and classic and popular songs and dances.
Children, the elderly, and entire families joined the activity, expressing gratitude for a gesture that breaks the monotony of the recovery efforts.
These initiatives will be extended to other territories impacted by the cyclone, supported by the institutional cultural system of the province.
