Tokyo, Jul 9 (Prensa Latina) The 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic torch relay on Friday arrived in this capital without roadside spectators due to the state of emergency that will be implemented as of next week.

A ceremony with few attendees marked the beginning of the 15-day journey of the torch here.

As scheduled before, the torch must pass through distinctive tourist areas in the city such as Tokyo Skytree, the Roppongi District and the famous Shibuya Crossing before entering the Olympic Stadium on July 23.

The flame traveled 46 of Japan's 47 prefectures since it started in the northeastern prefecture of Fukushima on March 25.

The torch relay started in Tokyo one day after the Government approved the state of emergency for the city between July 22 and August 22. The organizers of the Games also determined to hold off public roads to avoid the spread of Covid-19.

Nearly 11,000 athletes, members of delegations and journalists are expected to arrive in Tokyo for the Olympic Games, which will conclude on August 8, apart from 4,400 participants in the Paralympic Games, which will open on August 24.
