The Villa Clara Leopards will take the field at the Augusto César Sandino Stadium today with their pulse racing: defeating the Camagüey Bulls is the only directive to keep their epic run toward the postseason alive.

Very few imagined that, at this stage of the 64th National Baseball Series calendar, the felines would still be fighting tooth and nail for a berth. After concluding the regular season with nine games pending, the equation was cruel and perfect: win them all, reach 40 victories, displace the Pinar del Río Vegueros, and squeeze into the last spot for the next phase.

Under the leadership of Ramón Moré, Villa Clara has responded with a six-game winning streak that fuels hope and ignites the stands.

The quest, however, has followed a peculiar path: first against the Las Tunas Lumberjacks, the league leaders with their playoff spot secured; then against the already eliminated and depleted Granma Alazanes; and now against a Camagüey Bulls team with no aspirations, weakened by key absences.

Even so, baseball doesn't understand context, only results. Yesterday, on that same Sandino Stadium grass, the Leopards unleashed their entire offensive arsenal and knocked out the Camagüey team 12-2, in a duel where the bat roared without mercy.

They took the lead from the first inning and, inning after inning, built a wall of runs impossible for the visitors to scale.

The victory, the sixth in a row, brought Villa Clara to 37 wins, just three away from the final goal, and set the stage for today's clash: another do-or-die game, another day where tomorrow does not exist. Against the Bulls, the Leopards will once again play with their souls on the line, with pressure as their fuel and the postseason as their horizon.
