especiales

The National Energy Transition Strategy, based on science and innovation, was presented today at the Expocuba fairgrounds as part of the 41st edition of the Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2025).
Marlenis Águila Zamora, principal specialist at the Directorate of Renewable Energy of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), highlighted a series of pillars that make up the strategy. These include "the involvement of the population and the effective management of municipal and provincial systems to achieve the utilization of resources in the residential sector and local management."
Águila Zamora stated that the country has a program for the electrification of homes in the residential sector and aims to "offer solutions also to homes isolated from the national power system."
She indicated that from the municipal strategy, work is being done to achieve self-sufficiency by "taking advantage of the resources of each territory."
Regarding electric mobility, she argued that there is a nationwide program for the implementation of fast-charging stations, and "the first stage for 24 stations will be presented, which will allow electric vehicles to access the provinces and tourist hubs."
She highlighted, in relation to other spheres, that in the agribusiness and food production sector, "solar-powered water pumping is practiced, as well as the recovery of plants, power generation outside the harvest season, and the development of alcohol production and obtaining biogas from vinasse."
On a global scale, the Caribbean nation is "a founding member of the International Solar Alliance," and develops collaboration projects with international entities, she added.
Cuba has a professional and multidisciplinary team, controlled by Minem, where different spheres of society converge.
FIHAV 2025 will extend until the upcoming November 29, the day it will open its doors to the public.
