Mexico Calls for More Prominent UN Role in Face of Threats Against Venezuela

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, once again rejected any intervention in Venezuela today and called on the UN to play a more prominent role in the face of threats from the United States against the South American nation.
"What we have to say is that we do not agree with interventions, and even less so with military ones. That is the Constitution in our country and it is what we will continue to defend," the president said in response to a question about U.S. pressures against Caracas.
When asked if there should be a regional call to support Venezuela, the head of the executive branch considered that "the United Nations must take a much more leading role in these cases."
The combination of attacks on vessels allegedly linked to drug trafficking and the seizure of oil tankers near Venezuela's coasts have intensified Washington's campaign in its undeclared war against that South American nation.
This is compounded by a massive military presence in the area of the Southern Command, where the North American country has deployed warships, marines, fighter jets, and spy planes in a show of force.
Caracas has denounced that Trump stated on his social media that Venezuelan oil and other resources are his property, and reaffirmed its sovereignty over all natural wealth, as well as the right to free navigation and free trade.
