MEPs visiting Cuba denounced the extraterritorial effects of the US blockade and the smear campaigns against Cuba.

Washington’s blockade violates the human rights of all the people of Cuba but also those of other nations, Sira Rego, vice president of a leftist group of the European Parliament, and Manu Pineda, vice president of the friendship group with Cuba in the legislative body, affirmed at a press conference.

Both are part of a group of nine parliamentarians on an official visit to Cuba at the invitation of its government.

Manu Pineda pointed out that the blockade generates serious effects in all fields that deteriorate the quality of life of Cubans, but this is also projected on the citizens of other nations.

Both Pineda and Rego criticized the fact that the extreme right groups intend to impose the United States’ agenda against Cuba in the European Parliament.

Pineda pointed out that the extreme right insists on unleashing campaigns against Cuba just as they have done at other times against Venezuela or Nicaragua, following the patterns of US policy.

However, they avoid condemning the human rights violations and massacres in Colombia, or the situation of thousands of migrants trying to reach Europe, or addressing how to solve the situation of millions of children who sleep on the streets around the world, “none of whom are Cuban,” in the politician’s words.
